Recent reports that Hisham Elzanaty is both a multi-million dollar investor in the Ground Zero Mosque project, AS WELL AS a contibutor to the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) should come as no surprise to followers of letthemfail.us. And unless you only get your news from the mainstream propaganda mills, you’d also probably know that the HLF was shut down and designated by federal authorities as a global terrorist organization.

In 2008, five HLF leaders were convicted of providing material support to Hamas, an anti-Israeli militant group which we earlier identified as being supported by Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. So there is another money trail to Hammas in the funding of the mosque. When you follow the money that funds an ideology there are many trails, some circular, some not, and many more exist here, yet to be uncovered, as well as new trails being underwritten by our State Department.

What has not been articulated, other than through sound bites like “insensitive” or “unwise” (which fall far short of the mark) is the real reason why this mosque has been objected to, and why the project should be condemned. I will attempt to do this now, by clearing away some of the “religious freedom” guilt which seems to obscure the truth.

First of all, we must remember that the argument for religious freedom, or the unobstructed practice of religion in America has absolutely NOTHING to do with the argument for building the mosque or not, even though religion does enter the argument in another sense.

Clearly we can separate radical ISLAM from ISLAM as a whole. We can separate “extreme” from “moderate” with regard to any religion. Those who fallaciously argue that by condemning the mosque we condemn all Islam, including moderate Islam, completely miss the point. Yes, we can condemn radical Islam and still accept moderate Islam–yet still condemn the mosque. Here is why.

The murder of 3000 innocents burned alive in the symbolic, violent destruction of the World Trade Center took place in the name of Allah. They were murdered by Jihadists, radical Islamic terrorists who invoked Allah, in the name of Islam, as they indiscriminately killed 3000 human beings who never did them any harm, and never swore any religious oath against them, their beliefs or their god.

The fact that these radical Islamic extremists terrorized and murdered Americans in the name of Allah, and in the service of their Islamic religious beliefs, simply makes the decision to build an Islamic place of worship there unacceptable. It is the epitome of impropriety to build an Islamic mosque atop the ashes of 3000 dead people murdered in the name of Islam, whether the murderers represent an extreme version of that religion or not.

Moderate Islamics understand and respect this point of view. The fact that Feisal and his backers do not, speaks volumes. A “moderate” cleric, hoping to build bridges between Islam and the West, does not force the submission of a traumatized community to the will of it’s oppressor’s religion by erecting a symbol of that religion overtop the ashes of a genocidal mass muder–a holy Jihad invoked in the name of that religion. And here is where the argument diverges, and proponents of the mosque bring in “religious” freedom.

But this in fact calls into question whether the 911 terrorists were truly representing the religion, or some perverse, misguided ideology.

What is represented by the poor judgement, bad taste, insensitivity and obstinance of Imam Feisal and his unwaivering backers is a misguided ideolgy. Shari’a law is a misguided ideology, which the Imam also backs, but it is not a religion. So we should question whether the mosque represents the Islamic religion, or a misguided ideology. Families of victims, murdered by a misguided ideology under the cloak of a religious holy war, or Jihad, do not have to tolerate the misguided ideology, or the religion that it invokes, as a Shari’a Dawa erected atop the ashes of the victims.

Those misguided into thinking that objectors to the ground zero mosque are intolerant of religious freedom are mistaken–they are not. But they are intolerant of the freedom to express anti-American ideology under the guise of religious freedom, they are intolent of Shari’a, and are intolerant of symbols of oppression, bad taste, insensitivity, and the obstinance of a so called religious leader who has ties to terrorist ideologies. And finally, they are intolerant of the naivite of those who would point to their justifiable opposition and cry “religious intolerance” out of some form of religious guilt.

We challenge those who cry “intolerance” to donate 10% of their worldly possessions to Rauf in this quest to impose his mosque upon Ground Zero–no matter what the opposition. Then their money will back their ideologies. C’mon Mayor Bloomberg, you can give a few million more than Hisham–let’s see you rise to the challenge and put your money where your heart (or at least your mouth) is.

Happy Labor Day!
