It’s 1929 all over again. Through years of reckless, unregulated speculation comes the euphoria of wealth without basis–followed by the inevitable “great crash” of reality.
Now, the banks exert their power and influence upon governments to hide the fraud, clean up the mess, and emerge more powerful than before.
But wait. The 2009 version is different. There’s no FDR, and there’s no Pecora commission. In addition to the financial crisis, there’s a systemic moral crisis.
The U.S. Federal government has spent the last 60 years, in collusion with the banks, deconstructing the regulatory policies enacted by FDR. Bretton Woods has been replaced with the floating exchange rate, Glass Steagall has been repealed and the Gramm-Ruddman junk bond feeding act has been passed.
Government officials are making millions in hedge funds and speaking engagements, granting special favors for their personal financial enrichment, all enuring to the benefit of the favored banks.
Trillions of dollars of taxpayer’s future earnings and standard of living are being funneled to the most egregious speculators — rewarding the economic royalists for their fraud, sometimes in broad daylight, sometimes under cover of darkness, as governments and banks work together to cover up the fraud and hide the insolvency, pretending that “prosperity is just around the corner”.
Globalization has expanded the grasp of the financial elite, with tentacles of fraud reaching across the globe. Unlike 1929’s version of the economic collapse, the 2009 version is intricately more complicated, and the web of deception more intrinsically woven into the fabric of international finance.
But something else is different. The information age is here. Normal, hard working middle class citizens, like you and me, have access to information like never before. And we can share that information amongst each other through the evolving “blogosphere”, exposing the fraud and collusion just as Ferdinand Pecora did, back when government was “By the People, and For the People”.
And what’s more, mainstream media is slowly catching up to the alternative media, and the truth is leaking out. They haven’t completely sold out to the conspiratorial propaganda machines of economic power over government - and the roots of Fascism.
How will it all play out this time around, as history repeats itself with these strange new wrinkles?
Who can say? This is only the first page in a completely new chapter of civilization where the age old battle of good over evil continues to rage, but in ways never before imagined. The dark side of human nature has shown it’s ugly face again in this global economic collapse.
Where do you stand? Which side are you on?
For my part, I wish to be a part of the awakening and this blog is just one of many that will lead us into the next great American revolution–a revolution of the middle classes, rising up against fascism, with or without the help of the present government–perhaps establishing a new government, as it did in 1776 when the oppression of a ruling monarchy threatened the same liberties, and pursuit of the American dream, which the Anglo-Dutch Financial Oligarchy again threatens today.
If this blog helps to influence the next great American, if it helps to shape the thinking of the next Alexander Hamilton, or Thomas Jefferson, then my job is done.
I hope it will, for though I am probably not that person, he is out there. And we need him, now more than ever.
